Have you ever been to a Southern AIFD Conference? If you have not then you do not know what you been missing!!!

March 12-14, the Southern Chapter of the American Institute of Floral Designers will investigate Green approaches to floral design with a conference like no other entitled, “The Attraction’s Only Natural.” This “Green” forum will be held at the newly renovated Convention Center Marriott Hotel in Chattanooga, Tenn. Downtown night-life is just a few minutes ride away on an electric operated bus.

Touted as the “Scenic City of the South,” Chattanooga is the home of the Tennessee Aquarium, the world’s largest Aquarium dedicated to fresh water habitat and species. The free electric shuttle bus service is available to all downtown attractions. In the past few years the city has had a major face-lift and is known for the unique art displayed throughout the city streets. With its Parisian-like cafes and scrumptious cuisine the city is a must to visit. If you have a few extra days you could cruise on the river or tour the gardens of Rock City. If you have a love for nature you may want to hike on a trail in the Appalachians or a day trip to the wonderful Biltmore Estates.

The fun and excitement will open Friday night with a special cocktail reception and private tour of “The Ocean Journey,” the newest facility at the Tennessee Aquarium. Our under-water adventure will be filled with the excitement of the aquatic life surrounded by the floral art of the newest up-coming CFD and AIFD Designers in the industry from our very own Southern Chapter AIFD.

The weekend will be filled with an all-star line-up of outstanding speakers and award winning floral artists. Saturday will begin with the energetic combination of the Brazilian-born, Regina Berryman AIFD, CFD and Linda Robinette AIFD, CFD with their presentation entitled PHI “the Golden Proportion,” will explore man's primordial attraction to proportion through the Fibonacci theory.

From Big Sky country, Larry Kramer AIFD, CFD will showcase his floral art of unique armatures implemented into inspiring glass vase designs. Mr. Kramer has designed for The Oscars, The Tournament of Roses Parade and has designed at a Presidential Inauguration.

Ikebana designer, Kesami Holmes AIFD, CFD will provide the table artistry for a wonderful luncheon in the Rotunda. After this nourishing interlude and time of networking with our peers, the festivities continue with two more exciting programs.

The afternoon will be filled with profit making $en$e with a presentation by Greg Brown AIFD, CFD and Larry Hammack who operate a LEED-Certified Green floral business in Atlanta. Their presentation is entitled “Green i$ the Color of Money,” will cover helpful tips and pitfalls to avoid when going "green."

All the requirements for achieving a CFD or AIFD certification will be covered in "Inspiring steps to AIFD." Joyce Mason-Monheim AIFD, CFD, AAF, PFCI ahs a surpirse-packed presentation that will delight all artists that use flowers as a medium.

The fun continues with an evening of honoring Southern Chapter’s President Wendy Childress AIFD, CFD with formal dining and dancing at the President’s Gala. At the Cocktail Reception before dinner you can be a part of the Floral Body Art Contest to help raise money for Student Scholarships.

Sunday will feature Southern’s very own Floral Artist and Author, Sharon McGukin AIFD, CFD, PFCI and her friend Joyce Mason-Monheim AIFD, CFD, AAF, PFCI. Sharon and Joyce will be presenting a double program entitled Bouquets and Bouts “Sharon the Joy.” Walk down the aisle with two of the country's leading floral artists and learn how to entice your brides with the hottest color palettes, the newest flower varieties and innovative products and techniques. Inspire your innter "Picasso" to plan your 2010 weddings in HD.

For those of you who just don't wat to leave, Sharon and Joyce will offer an optional hands-on workshop on Sunday afternoon so you can unleash your creative juices and practice the techniques and tips you learned.
