Interested in becoming a Certified Floral Designer (CFD®) with the ultimate goal of becoming an Accredited Member of the American Institute of Floral Designers®? We hope the following information will help you prepare for this wonderful career pursuit.
Becoming an Accredited Member of AIFD®
Membership in AIFD® is selective and an individual must fulfill rigid qualifications and demonstrate advanced professional ability.After registering to participate, a candidate must successfully complete the two-part process of the AIFD® Professional Floral Design Evaluation® (PFDE®) and in doing so, earn scores high enough to not only earn the coveted Certified Floral Designer (CFD®) designation, but also earn an invitation to join as an Accredited Member and uphold its mission to advance the art of professional floral design through education. Members of the American Institute of Floral Designers® are distinguished by the letters “AIFD” used as an addendum to their name. Becoming a Certified Floral Designer (CFD®)
Floral designers have two different options to earn the coveted Certified Floral Designer (CFD®) designation.The first option is to register for and participate in an annual Professional Floral Design Evaluation® (PFDE®), and receive a cumulative evaluation score of 16.0 or better.” AIFD® also offers the opportunity to become a Certified Floral Designer (CFD®) through our Education Providers, which include Approved State Associations, AIFD® Education Partners and SAIFD Chapters. Each Education Provider has different courses and requirements to pass their program and a list of Education Partners can be found here. If you successfully complete their course and they deem that your work is at the level of a Certified Floral Designer, they submit your information to AIFD® and you are granted the opportunity to become a CFD®. Continuing Education
To retain the status as a Certified Floral Designer or Accredited Member of AIFD®, designers must meet continuing education requirements every five years (AIFD®) or every three years (CFD®. For more information on Continuing Education requirements, click here.
