Location: Ninth Moon Floral Design Showcase Friday, November 4, 2016 Saturday, November 5, 2016 Sunday, November 6, 2016 On November 4-6, 2016, Lan Su Chinese Garden hosts the Ninth Moon Floral Design Showcase, Lan Su’s annual floral design exhibition created in partnership with the Floral Design Institute. Ninth Moon is presented in conjunction with Mumvember, an annual celebration of the chrysanthemum. The Ninth Moon Floral Design Showcase is a juried floral show with each entry including chrysanthemums as a part of the display. Designers will use floral design styles and forms that utilize fresh floral materials and foliage in their entry. The exhibition is designed to celebrate the beauty and significance of chrysanthemums and recognize the floral art and creative talent of floral designers in the Pacific Northwest. The event is free with admission or membership to the garden. Visitors will also have the chance to vote on the “People’s Choice” award for best design as selected by the votes of Lan Su visitors (this award includes a Lan Su Friend Membership and gift packet). Finally, as part of Lan Su Chinese Garden’s Mumvember celebration, the winner of the “Best Use of Chrysanthemum” award will be selected by the event jury and awarded at the VIP opening reception and includes a cash prize. Featured Floral Designer Gerard Toh, AIFD CFD CCF Gerard Toh, AIFD, CFD, CCF, is an active member of the Southern California floral community, working in many roles, including serving as president of Teleflora’s Los Angeles Coastal Counties Unit and as a board member of the San Fernando Valley Floral Association, the Associated Florist of Southern California, the California State Floral Association and the American Institute of Floral Designers (AIFD). He currently serves on the marketing and PR committee of the Southwest chapter of AIFD. Toh’s work has been featured in numerous floral publications, including Flowers&, Flora, Blooming News, Town and Country and The Bride and Bloom. A winner of numerous awards for design, including the California State Designer of the Year, Toh has been a featured judge for various floral design competitions and has conducted design workshops internationally. Toh has served as the creative director for a large silk flower manufacturer in China, a special projects art director for The Bride and Bloom and floral consultant to the Aria, Vdara and City Center hotel complex in Las Vegas. He currently works as a creative director and visual merchandiser for various floral companies and is the publisher for the digital magazine Design in line for the SW Regional Chapter of AIFD.
